My name is Mark. For years I ran NerdieTech Systems, an IT consulting company in the Central Valley. Infrastructure, systems, small-business tech. I was the guy people called when something was broken or when they needed to build something that worked. That career taught me one thing above everything else: if you understand the problem better than anyone in the room, you can build the solution. It's just engineering.

The idea for The Family Press Co. didn't come from a market report. It came from my phone. Friends. People I'd known for years. NerdieTech clients. They kept asking me where they could get custom gear. Not because I was in apparel, but because they trusted me. Team hoodies. Spirit wear. Warmup sets before the season. Every time I referred them out, I watched someone else do exactly what I could do. The demand was already there. The trust was already mine. I just had to stop looking past it.

So I did what any former IT consultant would do: I spent weeks on it. Nights, weekends, spreadsheets open on the kitchen table. Vetting suppliers, modeling margins, mapping the workflow. Then I stopped and asked myself a harder question. Not can I build this? I already knew the answer to that. The real question was: what kind of asset am I building, and who is it for?

That's where everything shifted. A paycheck is income. A business is an asset: something you own, something that works for you, something you can hand to your children with the keys still in it. I grew up watching people grind their whole lives and end up with nothing to show for it beyond tired. I'm building something different: real generational wealth, started from scratch in Merced, CA, rooted in a skill and a community that already needed it.

The printer arrived. We're operating out of our home office and garage in Merced, CA. It's not glamorous. Jackson thinks it's pretty cool though. Coming from a 11-year-old, that's basically a five-star review.
